Purchase flood insurance before the waters rise      March 11, 2010
UPDATE: With considerable snow pack on the ground and spring rains in the forecast, Minnesota residents once again face the threat of flooding along rivers and tributaries throughout the state. Over the past 20 years, 15 presidentially declared flood disasters have struck the state.

Number of Minnesota homes weatherized jumps in February      March 10, 2010
The number of Minnesota homes weatherized under the federal Weatherization Assistance Program increased nearly 18 percent in February, according to new figures from the Minnesota Department of Commerce's Office of Energy Security (OES).

Consumers warned of collections scam      March 9, 2010
CONSUMER ALERT! The Minnesota Department of Commerce is warning Minnesotans to beware of e-mails from Experian Portfolio Services of St. Paul informing them that they owe money to an unnamed creditor. The e-mails, which ask consumers to pay their outstanding balances via PayPal, appear to be fraudulent and consumers should not provide any personal information or payment to satisfy the alleged debt.

Iowa ins. co. fined for selling unapproved annuities contracts in MN      March 8, 2010
NEWS: The Minnesota Department of Commerce has fined Des Moines, Iowa-based American Equity Investment Life Insurance Co. $275,000 for allegedly selling unapproved annuity contracts in the state of Minnesota. As a result, consumers who purchased the contacts were subject to higher surrender charges and less favorable terms

All appliance rebate reservations have been claimed...waiting lists also closed      March 2, 2010
ADVISORY: The response to the Trade-In and Save Appliance Rebate Program was overwhelming and the program is now fully subscribed. The waiting lists in each appliance category are also full. Requests for reservations and wait-listing are no longer being accepted.

NEWS: Beginning Monday, March 1, Minnesota consumers can reserve a rebate application for the purchase of an appliance under the Minnesota Trade-in & Save Appliance Rebate Program.
