Printable Content Engaging, Supporting and Acknowledging Faith and Community Organizations in the State of Minnesota On October 7, 2005, Governor Tim Pawlenty issued an executive order creating a Special Advisor and the Council on Faith and Community Service Initiatives to develop a stronger connection between state government and faith and community organizations. Throughout the country, faith communities have had a long history of providing food, housing, medical care, clothing and education to disadvantaged citizens. Efforts at the federal level by both the previous and current administrations, and through the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, have enabled faith-based organization to compete for state and federal funds with secular groups, performing a variety of unique and important community and social services. Faith and community organizations provide important, unique and valuable services to thousands of Minnesotans in ways that government simply cannot replicate. The many organizations and volunteers who make a difference in the lives of others each and every day are applauded for making Minnesota nation-leading in volunteerism, philanthropy, and faith and community based services. It is the mission of the Special Advisor and the Governor's Council on Faith and Community Service Initiatives to support the efforts of faith and community based organizations by increasing access to existing funding resources, reducing barriers to the delivery of services, eliminating duplication of effort, streamlining the process of working with government and promoting best practices.
