Governor Proclaims October Cyber Security Month

September 26, 2008 -- In signing a proclamation declaring October Cyber Security Month, Governor Tim Pawlenty noted the growing use of the Internet by families, schools, libraries, businesses and essential government services, and the "increasing threat of malicious attack by viruses and loss of privacy from spyware and adware."

To bring the Governor's message home, and in recognition of National Cyber Security Month, the Enterprise Security Office (ESO) is holding five separate security awareness event in Minnesota state agency cafeterias in October. The purpose of these events is to increase cyber security awareness for state employees and their families.

With identity theft and fraud on the rise, this year's theme is "Cyber Security — It's Up to U." The theme is targeted at increasing computer privacy and security awareness for users of all ages.

In addition to security awareness literature you can take home, you can test your ability to create a good password and enter a drawing to win a $25 Target gift certificate by simply completing a security related quiz. There will also be free cookies and apple cider available.
